A Note on Spongy Tissue in Alphonso Mangoes

Alphonso mangoes—fondly known as the "King of Fruits"—are cherished for their vibrant flavor, velvety texture, and tropical sweetness. However, like all things in nature, they’re not always perfect. Some fruits may occasionally have a natural internal condition called spongy tissue.

What is Spongy Tissue?

Spongy tissue is a rare, naturally occurring issue in Alphonso mangoes where parts of the pulp near the seed may appear pale, firm, and under-ripe. These patches are not visible from the outside and can only be seen when the mango is cut open. While not harmful, these sections may have a slightly off taste and differ in texture from the rest of the fruit.

Can You Still Enjoy the Fruit?

Yes! The unaffected parts of the mango are absolutely safe to eat and still full of flavor. Many mango lovers simply remove the spongy portion and enjoy the rest.

Our Policy on Spongy Tissue

At Mangoes n More, we take pride in delivering premium-quality Alphonso mangoes. That said, due to the natural and unpredictable nature of this condition, we do not offer refunds or replacements for fruits affected by spongy tissue.

We believe in transparency and want our customers to be well-informed. If you’re looking for mango varieties with minimal risk of spongy tissue, consider exploring other favorites like Kesar.

We appreciate your understanding and hope our mangoes continue to bring sunshine and sweetness to your home!

With warm regards,
Mangoes n More
